Two Types of Caravan Insurance

Caravans are great for a family holiday as they are like a home away from home with all of your personal belongings with you in your favourite location, but you have to protect your belongings and property from anything which may befall them by taking out caravan insurance.

In the UK there are two different types of insurance for caravans:

Touring Caravan Insurance

Touring caravan insurance is typically required if you intend on hitching your caravan to the back of your car and going wherever you like with it. Typically you can expect the following to come with your insurance policy:

• Cover to protect yourself against theft, fire damage, accidental damage, and vandalism.
• Protection for any personal belongings present in the caravan at the time.
• European cover to protect yourself should you take your caravan out of the country and into mainland Europe.
• No claims discount which is given to you when you first take out the insurance policy.

In this situation, your insurance premiums will be based on things such as; your age, the type of axle you have, the car you will be using to haul your caravan around, the value of your caravan, the number of additional security measures implemented on the caravan, and your previous driving record.

Static Caravan Insurance

This type of insurance is here to protect caravans which won’t be going anywhere; for static caravans which will stay in one location and will usually contain many more personal belongings. With this type of insurance policy you can expect to gain the following:

• Protection against accidental damage, fire damage, flood damage, and vandalism.
• Cover for personal belongings which are present in the caravan at the time.
• No claims discount which you gain when you take out your insurance policy.

Just like with the other type of insurance you can expect to have your insurance costs dictated by the following; age of the holder of the insurance policy, the location of your caravan, any additional security measures implemented on the caravan, and the value of the caravan you are trying to insure.
